Sam really came to the fore during two loan spells at Aston Villa, staring in 2017. He appeared in the 2018 Championship Play-Off Final before joining West Bromwich Albion.

During his second season at The Hawthorns, his excellent form helped ‘The Baggies’ to automatic promotion which continued into the 20/21 campaign.

The goalkeeper’s performance levels have been well documented with many calling for an international call with England.

In the summer of 2022 Sam joined Crystal Palace.

He became the first choice between the posts at Selhurst Park towards the end of the 2022-23 campaign, starting the last 10 games of the season after Roy Hodgson returned to the club.
