Vladimir joined Red Star Belgrade from his local club Loznica and made his debut during the 2001/02 season before being loaned out to Bosnia & Herzegovina champions FK Leotar, where he appeared in Champions League qualification games.

In 2004 he signed for FK Zemun before a return to Red Star, where he was a regular during the 2005/06 season and helped the side to a league and cup double.

Spells with Nantes and Sporting CP followed, likewise loans at Getafe, Wigan and Partizan, before joining the latter on a permanent deal in 2011.

He made almost 100 appearances for the club before joining Greek club Ergotelis in 2014. A switch to Maccaibi Haifa followed before a return to England, where he was a regular for Nottingham Forest during the 2016/17 season.

He returned to Partizan that summer and has since won the Serbian Cup on two occasions.

Vladimir made his debut for Serbia against the Czech Republic in August 2006 and has since made over 80 appearances for his country.
