The Moldova international started his career with spells at CF Gagauzia, Dacia-2 Buiucani and Saxan Gagaux Yeri, before joining FC Tiraspol in 2015.
He appeared ten times in the league before joining Sheriff Tiraspol, where he made 25 appearances in his first season and kept 15 clean sheets – helping the side win the league championship.
He won a second league championship the following season, likewise the Moldovan Cup, before joining Politehnica Iasi for the 2017/18 season.
In July 2018 he moved to Dutch Eredivisie club Fortuna Sittard, penning a three-year deal, and having made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Excelsior, he quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice keeper.
Alexei made 18 appearances for the Moldova U21 team before stepping up to the senior side, where he made his debut against Russia in a European Championship qualifier in October 2015. He has since made over 20 appearances for his country.
