A former starter for Syracuse University, Alex joined Toronto FC in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

While he spent his first season in the second team, he went on to make his MLS debut against Orlando City in June 2016.

He then featured regularly under coach Greg Vanney and ended the season having made 16 league appearances.

He cemented his place in the team in 2017 and broke the club’s record for most clean sheets in a season (10). He also kept the second highest number of clean sheets in the division.

Alex capped a fine season by helping Toronto win the MLS Cup and the following year he was rewarded with his first appearance for the United States national team.

Aside from his MLS Cup success, he also won the Supporters’ Shield in 2017 and helped Toronto to three Eastern Conference wins.
